Pride and Prejudice
- edge of the colony-
A fresh adaptation of Pride and Prejudice set in 1820s Australia, Edge of the Colony brings Austen’s wit to a world still in the making. Through music, movement, and ensemble storytelling, it explores love, reputation, and ambition in a society where everything is still to be decided.

About the show
Far from the drawing rooms of England, society here is still being built - fragile, ambitious, and fiercely observed. Reputation travels quickly, fortunes are uncertain, and every gathering becomes a performance of status, desire, and survival.
At the centre are Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy, two sharp minds navigating a world where appearances carry weight and first impressions can mislead. Around them, families rise, fall, and collide in a community where intimacy and scrutiny exist side by side.
This dynamic ensemble production blends text, movement, and live choreography, charting the rhythms of social life, from lively settlement gatherings to formal assemblies and glittering balls. As the colony expands, so too do the possibilities and the risks.
At once playful and precise, Edge of the Colony explores love, class, and transformation in a society on the brink of becoming something new.
Seeking a dance troupe partner
Live Theatre Inc. is seeking a dance troupe and choreographer to collaborate on Pride & Prejudice – Edge of the Colony, a reimagined colonial Australian staging of the classic story.
The role of dance within the production is both narrative and atmospheric. Choreography will draw from Regency-era social dances (e.g. country dances, reels, quadrilles) while allowing for creative adaptation that reflects the rawness and uniqueness of the early Australian colonial setting. Movement should feel grounded in period authenticity, but not rigidly historical—there is room for interpretation, texture, and emotional expression.
