Records of BATS history don't really begin until the early forties, but it's inception came in 1924 with the opening of the newer and much improved School of Arts in Buderim and the formation of the Buderim Philharmonic Society. In our scrapbook we have examples of programs from the 50's and 60's showing revues were a popular for of entertainment.

During these years we were officially known as Buderim Amateur Theatrical Society, shortened to B.A.T.S.. In 1989 we became incorporated and many of the members indicated a great wish to retain the word BATS in the title, so our official name is BATS Theatre Co. Inc.

BATS prides itself on being one of the largest Theatre groups on the Coast while still maintaining the friendly camaraderie of Theatre lovers whether involved actively or socially. As an active member the opportunities are never ending...From being in the spotlight on stage, directing, guiding productions from behind the scenes, costumes, make-up, lighting, set design and construction, to being our public face working on front-of-house and behind the bar. 2011 also see's the inaugural Edythe Brooke-Cooper Playwriting Competition.

You can do as much or as little as you wish.

Our shows provide something for everyone -
musicals, dramas, comedies and pantomimes!

As a purely social member there are still opportunities to be a total part of our Theatre. We have social events such as picnics, trivia nights, breakfasts, informal get togethers, where all members can meet for a good time. At any show you may come to we would be pleased if you introduced yourself and had a chat. Committee members can be identified by their badges and are more than willing to answer your questions or listen to your comments, as are our front-of-house and bar staff. After each performance cast members usually gather at the bar to chat and relax and we encourage the audience to join them.

BATS offer 12 month memberships. Youth $20 (under 18yrs), Single $35 and Family $50. Members receive regular newsletters and concession ticket prices to our shows and those of other theatres on the Coast.

Being involved in a Theatre group, in whatever capacity suits you, is all about enjoyment, and we hope that BATS can give you that.

BATS THEATRE CO. INC RECEIVES GRANT FROM BUDERIM FOUNDATION

BATS Theatre Co. Inc is very pleased to have been awarded a $4000 grant from The Buderim Foundation to go toward the purchase a Wireless Talkback System for our Theatre. This will provide much more freedom for our backstage crew and make their job so much easier and also benefit those many community groups who use the Buderim War Memorial Hall and hire our lighting and sound equipment.

What is The Buderim Foundation? The Buderim Foundation is a philanthropic, not-for-profit organization working in conjunctionwith the Buderim War Memorial Community Association (BWMCA) and its purpose is simple, to make the Buderim community a better place in which to live. It was formally launched in April 2004 and it has three main tasks. It receives donations and bequests from generous citizens, invests the funds to generate income and provides grants for community projects.

The foundation made their first grants in September 2008 and since them some of the community groups to receive grants have been The Buderim Scout Group to purchase a new storage shed, Buderim Mountain State School P & C for their school archives restoration, The Buderim Lions Club for its “Families in the Park” days and The Eric Joseph Foote War Memorial Sanctuary received a grant to install a drinking fountain in the sanctuary. These are just a few of the many community groups who have benefited from this wonderful initiative by the Buderim Foundation. 26 groups have received grants from The Buderim Foundation in the last 4 years and in total The Foundation has given $136,000 back to the community since it was established in 2004. The Buderim Foundation not only assists the community by providing grants but also helps out in other ways such as providing help to families in need. In 2010 The Buderim Foundation, for the sixth consecutive year, provided Back to School vouchers to local schools and charities. The vouchers were distributed by the schools and charities to families requiring assistance with their children’s back-to-school expenses.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

There are many ways that you can help The Buderim Foundation reach its potential. You may wish to consider making a donation, a pledge or a bequest or becoming an Ambassador. You may also like to consider volunteering your time to assist the Foundation. For more information on the Foundation and how you can help them to benefit the Buderim community go to their website atwww.buderimfoundation.org.au or give them a call on (07) 5456 1757.
