Rebecca Frith (OPEN SECTION)
Rebecca Frith is probably best known for her role in the Cannes Film Festival, Camera D’or winning, LOVE SERENADE for which she won the New York Beaux Arts Society, Da Vinci Award for Best Actress in a Debut Performance.
On graduating from NIDA, she debuted in Micheal Gow’s, play, THE KID and in Neil Armfield’s ground–breaking production of Ibsen’s GHOSTS, which won Best production and best Director. Sydney Theatre Company’s, co-founder and artistic director, Richard Wherrett, then cast her as his Juliet for the Sydney Theatre Company production of ROMEO AND JULIET, which also starred Richard Roxburgh as Mercutio.
She went on to work with Richard Wherrett, playing in leads in THREE SISTERS, THE CRUCIBLE and A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM at the Sydney Opera House Drama Theatre.
She played one of Bluebeard’s women alongside Cate Blanchett, Lucy Bell, Kelly Butler and Sacha Horler in Bea Christian’s first play at Belvoir Street, called BLUE MURDER and Karin Mainwaring’s early play THE RAINDANCERS (dir: Rodney Fisher), at the STC opposite Bryan Brown and continued her love affair with Shakespeare, playing leads in MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING and TWELFTH NIGHT.
She has been nominated for an AFI AWARD for SECRET BRIDESMAIDS BUSINESS for ABC television and had guest roles in more t.v series you could poke a stick at. Her favourite TV gig was a regular guest role in M.D.A.
Rebecca says:
"I was born in Kingaroy and raised on the coast, went to Buderim State School and attended B.A.T.S as a little girl..... I'm very excited to be going home to Buderim and the Hall is where I first stepped on a stage".
Felicity Bassingthwaighte (YOUTH SECTION)
Felicity began performing at the age of four when she sang The Fairy Mouse in the Dalby Eisteddfod, followed closely by performances in the Speech and Drama section, and so began a love of acting and Theatre that will not abate.
She is a graduate of the DDIAE (now USQ) Theatre Department and whilst there performed in plays by Tennessee Williams, Nick Enright, Moliere, John Romeril and Noel Coward, amongst others. The harsh reality of unemployment led Felicity to use her qualifications from Trinity College and AMEB to teach Speech and Drama privately, which she has done for over 20 years.
Felicity has done regular voice-over work for the ABC’s Radio National ‘Encounter’ program and also a one woman show ‘Women Alone’, for the Arts Council’s Heritage Building concerts. She has a love of poetry and Shakespeare instilled by her mother, but also a love for Australian playwrights such as Nick Enright, Steven Sewell and Alex Buzo.
Felicity has adjudicated the Dalby and KSP Festivals and has been continually impressed by the wealth of talent in the so called ‘amateur’ theatre community.
