The Odd Couple (female version)

The LIND Theatre Nambour

Information Night:

22 March/ 23 March

16 Mitchell St Nambour

Characters are as follows:

Olive: very capable, strong-minded and unconventional. Successful career woman. Doesn't believe in housework! 40 - 50.

Florence: obsessive behaviour, neurotic, numerous physical ailments. Well dressed. Self-obsessed. 40 - 50.

Mickey: sensible,a no-nonsense police officer (female). Tough but has a soft spot for Florence. 40+

Vera: struggles to fit in socially, always on the wrong track. Single-minded. Maybe slightly autistic. Very serious. 30 - 50

Sylvie and Renee: part of the foursome who play Trivial Pursuit at Olive's every week. Sylvie needs to be 40 at oldest as she is pregnant in the play. Renee is 40 -50. Re their characters, we will develop them as we go depending on the actors.

Manolo and Jesus (pronounced Hay Zeus): strong comic roles, well dressed and well groomed, charmers. 40 - 50. Spanish accents
No preparation needed for audition other than Spanish accents for the brothers. We will be doing some of the play scenes using scripts.
General role Information: there are two lead roles ie Olive and Florence, who have a correspondingly large amount of dialogue. The four other women are big roles but are not in every scene. The two men (brothers) are only on in Act 2 but have strong comic roles (dependant on exaggerated Spanish accents) and provide some of the funniest moments in the play.
I would like 3 rehearsals a week for first three weeks ie Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7-9.30 plus Sunday afternoon 2-4.30. These will require all to attend. Then we may drop to 2 rehearsals for a few weeks. I'm very efficient with time and start on time so there's no need for longer rehearsals. Olive and Florence will need to be at all rehearsals but I will timetable seperate ones for the 6 women and for the two leads and the men, and of course for the two leads on their own.
The first rehearsals will be read through of the whole play, so we start to develop characters and how they react to each other. I'm not interested in blocking at that stage, except where it occurs naturally. To me, the key to this play is having realistic interactions with a high level of energy and strong character development
